Inca Alpaca

Alpaca farming is rapidly becoming one of the most successful and profitable alternative farming enterprises in the agricultural sector. Alpaca breeding stock is in demand globally due to the following factors:

1. They produce a viable and profitable end product which is the prestigious fleece.
2. Reproductions rates are low with only one cria (baby) per year and 50/50 male and female.
3. Alpacas offer a fantastic lifestyle as they are friendly, cute and easy to keep.

The market for breeding stock and pets here in Europe is rapidly growing as there is real confidence in the market due to the success of the alpaca industry in the US and Australia which are several years in front.

The alpaca industry here in the UK is stud stock based, so owners can make a healthy return from breeding and selling stock for many years before we have enough fleece to satisfy commercial fibre demand. This is in contract to other alternative farming enterprises that haven't focused on the end product until they have been through boom and bust cycles. The British Alpaca Industry is dedicated to becoming a fibre industry.
The alpaca industry is friendly, exciting and offers an amazing lifestyle and financial opportunity for those willing to learn and work with these amazing animals.

With over 22 years experience in breeding alpacas, owner and British Alpaca Society judge Tim Hey can provide full support and advice from setting up your farm, stock selection and breeding programme formulation. Tim can also help with a business plan and marketing. We pride ourselves on offering extensive ongoing support and advice for all customers.

An alpaca business qualifies as a route to gaining planning permission for an agricultural dwelling (house) and barn buildings. Having gained full planning for a house on virgin ground in an AONB via this route, Tim can help and guide you through this process.

People interested in learning more about alpacas are welcome, by appointment, to our farm of over 300 alpacas in West Dorset. Here we can talk through individual requirements and get hands on with our alpacas.
